How does one survive by piroufreek2003-03-28 10:14:51
  Hmmm.... by BuggedEyes 2003-03-28 10:40:18
By what standards are you applying the "moral compassionate human" to? And whose? In my own life, I've personally seen what hurts people and what makes them happy. I'm always striving to learn more and to find out what makes people tick. As to matters of grey, there is an old, old, phrase, "The Fog Of War". The commanders and the troops don't know what is going on. The troops keep doing what they've been trained to do, and the commanders go with experience and training. Sometimes they win, sometimes they lose. Currently there is in operation in Iraq, the most technologically advanced war ever. This is a war where the FOW is the smallest ever. Every decimal is plotted as far as it goes. Yet the occasional truck will still get lost. That's life. You just do the best that you can. You can have the small consolation that there are many others doing the best that they can too. And since the percentage of do-gooders always remains the same, and the population is by far higher than it ever has been before, there is a larger amount of do-gooding out there than ever in history. As to the animals, have you ever walked into the outdoors? Every single grain of sand has a place in existance, and every single animal has their own place. The only exception is where Man has changed the environment. They have changed the purpose of animals to suit their own purpose. All animals have a reason to exist and do so in harmony with their own ecosystem. They all have a place in it. Lose enough links and the Earth becomes a barren rock full of chemicals that do nothing but swish back and forth with the moon's tides. I do believe that there is a higher law. That of life and that of knowledge. The greater the knowledge to me, the closer that I am to the Universe. For instance, I can't wait to find out when science finds out that the Universe has limits and plots them out. Because once they do and have mapped everything until a fare-thee-well, they will start asking, "What is outside of those limits?" They already are. There are any number of extra dimensional theories out there and one day we will have enough proof as technology advances to find an out to ANY limit. As to absolutes, what is the difference in the smallest scale of absolutes, to a blinding fog of entropy? There may be rules that govern which way a quark will turn, but does it ALWAYS work that way? We go by observance and theories, but what about muons? It's just something else that we will have to add to our overall picture. It doesn't disprove a blessed thing. It only refines the decimal point further down the scale. Hmmm... "humanity is the only thing that decides what one should do and what one shouldn't"... that implies a groupmind. I don't know anything about a human groupmind. (unless it's popular opinion, and even then, it's only if you are a part of that demography) I feel that the world is a vast incredible place. There is room for people with absolute views, people with greyscale views and people with no views. The later mess up the lines, but enough jogging of the elbow can move the decimal place down another notch.
