Job hunt ideas/comments/suggestions by momofunk 2003-11-12 00:28:23
Well, I should hopefully be graduating this spring/summer, depending on how everything works out, and then I'll have to face the real world. I'm wondering what the UFie crowd might have to say about me trying to get my foot in the door somewhere once I get done and if there is anything I could/should do to make the process less painful than I fear it's going to be.

A few things:
1) I'm trying to stay in the Rocky Mountain region, so basically my wife and I are looking at working somewhere in Wyoming (preferably Laramie) or Colorado.

2) Most of what I've been working with in school has been networking and database stuff, so that's most likely the sort of work I'm looking for. I've seen several jobs in the area through Geekfinder, but nothing that's really entry level. Most of my experience has been working with Macs (OS X for the most part) and a bit with Linux. I've got web design experience and a moderate level of skill working with PHP, C++ and SQL. I've been trying to pick up some Objective-C on the side, but just haven't found the time to really dig into it yet.

3) I'm not in a huge rush, since my current position at the newspaper isn't going to disappear in the near future, but I'd like to actually start working in my own field instead of working just to pay the bills.

So, if anyone has anything they'd like to add to help me out withh this, I would be extremely grateful!!
