| Wed 1/29 - What happened to Tuesday? And our oven? |

Guess I got too busy actually working (again) and reading the daily strip's discussion board (again).
In an improbable channeling of woes from our Illiways barista, on my birthday our oven decided not to work anymore. No gas flow at all, but the stove burners work. We've decided 20+ years is good enough and we will be replacing it. Suitable* replacement and source identified; now to see it up-close and check the details (installation fee** and time-of-day, etc.).
And MrsMal really is a trooper. Since she and KidMal1.0 couldn't bake the cake they just mixed, she remembered we had a spare chocolate cream pie (a.k.a. "french silk") in the deep-freeze left over from Thanksgiving. (When its buy-one-get-one-half-off on french silk pie, YOU BUY IT. You never know...) So with icing and sprinkles, I enjoyed my birthday pie. And my gift: a Bosch reciprocating saw with blade assortment and cases (one for saw, one for blades). Time to go cut the roots on the neighbor's willow! (Stay out of my lawn!!!)
* More than suitable, really. It's the color we actually want, and it has TWO oven chambers. Most of our cooking can be done in the smaller one -- we'll save on gas. The larger can be used for Thanksgiving and other large family get-togethers. No more oven sharing resulting in over- & under-done foods, etc.
** Yes, installation is basically 1) move it close, 2) connect overpriced gas line, 3) open valve, 4) check for leaks, 5) plug in AC, 6) adjust position. But I dare not do any moving myself with MrsMal unable to lift things right now. (More on that later, like April.) So I'd rather have the pros do it. And if they tear up the vinyl floor I have someone ELSE to blame. |
