| Some opinions/beliefs (includes heavy religion) |

1. I am an engineer. It is my mind and my soul. It drives my thought processes inside and outside of work. I try to live by whatever rules I feel are imposed on me, but have broken rules occasionally in the name of love when my heart takes over.
2. I am a fundamentalist, evangelical Christian. I believe the mainstream Christian Bible is the inspired Word of God (although venerating any specific version/translation is silly). My faith is firm that while God's creation of Nature -- including Man -- is wonderful and beautiful, Man through Sin has caused corruption, death and destruction. We are born into a sinful nature that only the sacrifice of Christ Jesus the Son of God can atone for. I believe Christ will come again. All the arguments about Creation, homosexuality and abortion distract from this core concept: there is Sin, you have it, you need it gone, Jesus can do that for you.
3. I have continued issues with the sin of self-gratification that separates me from God's plan for my life. Through my own experience, I believe self-gratification -- the search for "happiness"/"satisfaction", self-improvement, etc. -- is all vanity apart from God, and this causes much depression in the Western world. What is often touted as "natural" is not always "good" in the moral sense of the word (good/evil, righteous/sinful) due to the sinful corruption of Nature. Carnal "good" must give way to Spiritual good., yet we are free to enjoy many things in MODERATION.
4. I am circumsized. I am glad to be. My wife is glad I am. I had my son circumsized, for many reasons I will not go into now. I believe there are benefits to this, and that parents should not be withheld the right to choose this. If this is taken away, then so should the right for parent's to pierce a child's ears until the child can legally choose for himself/herself. I believe countries that are banning circumcision are doing so under the auspices of insurance companies who no longer wish to pay for it, with "human rights" only slapped on as an excuse. I believe doctors in the US are NOT making large profits from it, and I know from experience there is ZERO pressure on the parents to perform one.
5. I do believe breastfeeding is best for a child, even if the milk comes from another mother. I believe in giving mothers the freedom to feed, although I would ask them to be aware of their surroundings and mindful of the potential feelings of the people around them (though not so much so at the detriment of the child). A certain decorum CAN be maintained, and the feeding be done discreetly. Please prepare in advance.
6. Although I believe in citizen's rights to own guns both for personal protection and recreation (including hunting, I guess), I do not and will not personally own a gun. I believe a gun in a house with small children is asking for trouble eventually (although my brother and I grew up knowing NEVER to touch Dad's shotgun, so no trouble happened). And by the time the kids are gone, I will be too old and my vision and reflexes too lax to properly use a gun. However, the criminals will always have (access to) guns, so it makes sense not to limit them to the general public given proper and proven background & psych checks. If I get in a bad situation alone, I'm going to Heaven, or can use other improvised weaponry (an incapacitating force is as good as a lethal force, usually). If it's an all-Hell-breaks loose protect-my-family scenario, I know friends who can hook me up, "the law" and "rights" meaning nothing by that point.
7. I am lazy. Not an opinion or belief, but just a fact. Yes, I know it. No, I am not doing anything to change that. But see #1: I make things work FOR me sometimes.
I'm sure I have more, but I'm too lazy to think of them today. |
