[SparcMan] Diary of SparcMan Updated/Posted: 2005-08-25 00:30:52
Background:
Computer nerd from way back - no quite as far back as Sid, but close.
First real computer: Commodore VIC20
I was a big Commodore 64 fan until I got my first 486 (a real piece of work Packard Bell). I voided the warranty after about one week to add a genuine sound blaster (I just HAD to have sound effects for Wolfenstein 3D!). Some time later, I wanted to add a hard drive (I think it came with a 500MB drive). There was no more slots for a hard drive and I was too lazy to transfer everything to the new drive so I used packing tape to tape the drive to the top of the power supply! And no, EMI was never a problem with the drive, it worked just fine there. Anyhow, after that, I never bothered with a prebuilt system and always built my own rig (not counting my laptop).
I've always been a major gamer as well. When I got my VIC20, I also got a book of BASIC games and a tape drive and typed in a few of the better ones and saved them to tape. Nowadays, I like RTS's, FPS's, puzzle-type games and emulators like MAME, SNES and such.
I'm also a big fan of VMware.
I currently work as a 2nd level tech/pseudo-supervisor for a large computer manufacturer that I will not name.
I'm now married to a beautiful Brazillian and I have 3 awesome girls.
Not much time for games anymore, but I try to squeeze some time in here and there.
