ok ... I've seen some really good idea, like the comic book and a publicity stunt ...
The problem is that the UF staff is REALLY small. And they're forced to use scuba gear just to keep up with their current workload, just from how swamped they are with things they HAVE to do.
Also consider that *all* the drawings have to be done by Illiad who doesn't have a tracer (re: illustrator) like Bankie Edwards to help him out (5 points if you get the reference *grin*)
The biggest problem is the resource issue. There are simply some things that MUST be done by the UF staff themselves. Take monitoring the student ID's ... would you be willing to give up information like that to someone who is a complete stranger to you?
On things like the publicity ... It's easy to say "lets generate web traffic, which will get more people there". Web traffic isn't the problem. Getting that is easy. It's not overloading the pipe that can be the problem. Can you imagine the UF site getting /.'d right off the web??
We need to expand the UF family to get those people who don't necessarily list their email address as the preferred method of contact over their phone number.
People in malls, people at markets and such. Ones who are in a "lets spend money" mood. Not too many people buy on the web without already being looking for something specific. For all the commerece that happens on the web, it's usually focused, and very little real impulse buying.
As the annoying man on the (i think) Verizon paging service ads says, "lets think outside the box"
