Which is okay for a comic. But in the EU, snap election aren't the standard, rather the exception, even though some EU countries display occasional election chains if the outcome isn't clear. Most elections though happen in regular periods of four or five years, you know the aprox. time of year, and at least half a year prior you also know the exact date as well as most of the candidates and parties. Also the noise of campaigning increases as the date approaches.
It's quite convenient, however, you get a near voting poll, or you can request the papers to vote by mail if you can't make the date (or want to take your time to check out the listed candidates and parties).
Counting all the paper votes is tedious work requiring many helpers from the general population, but this makes it hard to manipulate with 'reasonable' effort or in significant numbers. |
