for a very long time. Verizon bought all of those areas when they bought Alltel. In many of those areas Verizon still has the best coverage of any major carrier. Good luck getting T-mobile in the boonies. Even if GSM towers are available, your handset may not choose to use a tower with expensive roaming for T-mobile leaving you without service as it tries to connect to a preferred tower much further away.
