I was in an open air, middle of the concourse, no place to hide, 360degree wrap around counter so approachable from all sides, pseudo food vendor kiosk.
There were signs around the bulk of it pointing to the front of the area where the register was located, but folks either missed them or didn't care, so we were constantly having to ask folks to "Join the line on the other side".
(The back of the kiosk had nothing but condiments, napkins, plastic cutlery, and other disposables arranged on it, so we're not sure why they would form a line back there & expect to be served... *Sigh*)
Anyway, we had to listen to every nasally toned bit of muzack, every public address, every shouty shopper passing by, every screamy kid having a tantrum, every drunken bum barfing in the potted planter nearby, every jerk on their cellphone & TALKING TOO LOUDLY to the person on the other end, every groaning husband lumbering under a too tall load of shopping bags & boxes, every wife calling back to said hubby to "Hurry up Harold! We're missing the sale at $Store! I want to get something for dear aunt Matilda while we're here!", every angsty teenager emo whining to his girl/boyfriend about how they're SO mistreated & misunderstood, yadda yadda yadda...
The only good thing was that we were near a piercing pagoda & occaisionally got to watch some woman get her nipples pierced in public.
*Grins*
But having to listen to Christmas carols from about... oh... THE FOURTH OF JULY until just after New Year's?
Yeah, I could do without that part.
I still cringe when I enter a shopping mall during the holidays, even though I haven't worked in one for decades.
I also tend to tip any open air kiosk workers I find that look about THIIIIIIIS >< close to snapping & taking out shoppers with a plastic swizzle stick.
