New lathe project! by tonyz 2014-07-12 10:35:49
I've been trying to figure out my next lathe project for a few weeks, last night in a dream it came to me: Full scale bowling balls & pins.

...now, to locate the dimensions of a bowling pin or come up with some kind of template. maybe my local alley has a broken or split pin i can take home to work from. maybe i need to hit up a sporting goods store with a tape measure. we'll see.

on topic, i finished the spiral that nearly ate my finger, considering i had no idea what i was doing or how to go about it, i'm pleased with the results. ...and that's good since it has cost me money in the form of an er visit, antibiotics, antibiotic ointment, gause, tape, gause pads, bent deburing bits, and a chewed up tool rest on the lathe. if i get a chance today i'll upload an image of the finished (rough finish / prototype) spiral for all to see. I'm both proud and embarrassed by it. :)

Next time, I'm building a jig and using the drill press.
