The insulation is not likely to last long.

I just looked at specs from a company I am EXTREMELY familiar with that happens to make electrical connectors (among other things) and may or may not have something to do with me getting a regular paycheck :)

The spade connectors (that is what you indicated - male is top, female is bottom) I looked at are rated to 250 degrees C. They are also uninsulated. I would not use the hardware-store variety insulated connectors for high-heat areas. The plastic insulation is not likely to hold up. I don't know if that caused/added to the issue you are having, but it is certainly not out of the realm of possibility.
