after that? Or did that just end the practical? The practice going through the whole exam would have been good for you for the next time.
I suspect you just need a little more on-the-road time, so you can get the feel of things and relax into the role of "driver." It's difficult, especially after you're out of your teens. Learning anything is more difficult the older you get. Especially physical tasks that are mostly "muscle memory," such as driving. You need sufficient repetitions (and you need more of them, the older you get) to get a movement or reaction down to the semi-reflex level.
Get more practice if you can, before Whitsuntide, and you will do perfectly. Bet on it. Besides, mainly, if you think about it wasn't the problem just nerves, today? Now that you've been there once you won't be so nervous the second time. The mind has plenty tricks to play like that, you will find it almost familiar the second go, I'm certain.
Sorry you didn't get there today, but we're rooting for you to get the license next try.
(I seem to recall that most people there take at least three tries, often four or more, to get their license. Is that correct? I can't remember where I heard it, but as tough as they make the test conditions, I can believe it. This means you're still above average if you get it in two.)
