Wow, talk about utterly useless.... by Freakazoid2014-05-16 15:19:48
What, you wanted a FUNCTIONAL one? =-Jp by ShadowSystems 2014-05-16 16:23:01
I want a big ol' tower for 3.5" internal HDD's that has two cables: the power to the wall, & the USB3.x to the computer.
(Ok, the drive data/power cables too, but you know what I meant.)

I don't want NAS, because having to FTP my files to myself is a stupid waste of time & bandwidth.
I don't need FireWire/Thunderbolt/E-SATA ports since my NUC doesn't have any of them either.
(I could add a USB3.x to $Port dongle, but since that's bound by the USB bus speed, it doesn't make sense to convert ports.)

Just a big tower with lots of drive bays, hardware RAID mirroring, & "plug it in & it Just Works" functionality.
I've got four old 1Tb Seagates that I could use in it until I can afford to purchase multiple Manufacturer/Model/Batch drives to do it right, but as long as the tower doesn't put an upper limit on HDD capacity, then I can use the sucker until it dies from old age.

*Sigh*

Not freakin likely.
My best option is a Drobo Tower, and those are expensive as hell.
