The biggest idiot might not have been your manager. It could have been whoever thought it was a brilliant idea to appoint her to the position. And not check up on progress.
But I digress. A manager, even a manager of techies, does not necessarily have to have technical skills. Certainly not technical skills equal to or superior to the people being managed. Being able to organize people and listen to them when they explain what they do is really all that is required. Of course, if a manager doesn't have THAT skill, but instead has an invincible belief of technical competence, along with a superiority complex and a belief that a supervisory position means having the ability to dictate how people should do things, and how they should behave in general, well ... that's just a disaster. |
