I think in these types of questions, the "difference" itself needs a "base". (think 5 is the difference between 2 and 7, or 9 and 4, and stating "5" by itself does not make much sense without the knowing where we are coming from)

My answer could be something like this (after seeing yours haha):

left outer join expands the result set of the inner join to include keys from the left table that do not match any keys of the right table. Any row of the right table that has no matching key is presented as null.
