on a 7 year old car, the paint will have faded subtly but noticable from factory spec. Also, the same paint color may have different names depending on which model it was on. For instance, On a Fiesta, it could be Blue, on a Mercury, cerulean, and on a Lincoln, Seychelles Seas - but all coming out of the same paint can. Or the reverse - the blue they use in September may not match up exactly to the Blue they used in April. That's why the actual color code is critical.
