had nothing whatsoever to do with the profits of the health insurance industry being at record highs every year for the last fifteen or more.
Nothing at all, nope, it's duh gummint.
(The following is according to INDUSTRY numbers as reported annually, and published in the mainstream and other media. ABC news has a report, for instance. No, there are too many comments and the like, I'm not posting links tonight. Besides, the people who post a lot of this information where we can get at it easily are MAD about it, and therefore someone here will say it's "invalid data" for some bone-head trumped-up reason. (That the reporter is extremely mad about such skewed numbers and obscene profits doesn't make the numbers themselves incorrect.) So, dig 'em out yourself. I found them in not many minutes, you can too:
There was a 428% rise in PROFITS between 2000 and 2007. 2008 alone showed ANOTHER 52% increase in PROFITS. MORE since then. $12.2 BILLION in profits in 2009 for just the TOP FIVE U.S. companies. Same five in 2013 made $19.48 BILLION MORE. Not GROSS INCOME. In PROFITS.
But that's all the GOVERNMENT'S fault?
YEAH, it could be, if by "fault" you mean it was wrong for the government NOT TO beat them all about the head with a great big fat lead-cored baseball bat, for not forcing these scumbuckets to operate within the social contract - as a benefit to ALL and not simply a benefit to the ONE PERCENT.
But you likely mean it's "them gol-danged LIBERALS'" fault. "Them LIBERALS" who have been trying to get the lead-cored ball-bats out and thump the one percent of people ACCRUING all those profits; who wish fervently to beat them soundly for being greedy scumbuckets, and for taking obscene 'bonuses' for screwing people out of decent, affordable, health care.
It is nearly a truism that any (other!!) country on this planet which has indoor plumbing, also has HEALTH CARE AS A RIGHT for everyone.
EXCEPT the U.S.
NO other country on the planet that has indoor plumbing has 60% of personal bankruptcies caused by INABILITY TO PAY FOR NECESSARY AND LIFE-SAVING MEDICAL CARE.
Anyone in a flush-toilet-equipped, civilized, country cannot even fathom what I mean, when I tell them that there are people here who are forced to either allow their kids/spouses/parents to DIE or to live in pain, disfigurement, or permanent disability simply for lack of medical treatment. Their other option if they do not wish to allow their loved ones to suffer is to go into permanent and irrecoverable debt, to pay for those medical treatments. Most of these people HAD INSURANCE, but the insurance company figured some way NOT to pay for the needed care.
(Oh, and "Experimental treatment" means it has been used successfully for ten or twenty years but the insurance company hasn't forced the provider to give them a kick-back.)
They look at me when I bring such foolishness as that up, as if I had three heads, and two of them looked like smurfs.
It just doesn't happen ANYWHERE ELSE.
PLUS, this idiotic nation pays DOUBLE or more for the same pill or procedure, the IDENTICAL medicine or medical procedure, as anywhere else. Sometimes a lot more than double.
One of the drugs I take for pain costs just -eighteen cents- a dose, anywhere in the world.
Anywhere EXCEPT here, of course. HERE, the same thing that you get for eighteen cents in Canada, Europe, AFRICA!!, South America, and so on, costs well over four dollars.
NOT better. NOT different. NOT "quality assured." It's IDENTICAL. Same plant makes it. Same box, same label, same "patient brochure" inside. No difference, except the price.
But, sure, that's the government's fault. Right. Got it.
It's the government's fault. That's simply =Ingenuous.= (SIC.)
