In my personal experience, if something is making me miserable, it's cuz I'm forcing myself to hold onto it when it doesn't really fit me. If you'd like, I can send you a rambling e-mail with how I approach Buddhism. Can't say that it's the right way or the wrong way to practice, just that it's what works for me. I follow the teachings of some Tibetan Buddhists as best I can without driving myself insane.
