A wasp is caught as easily as killed. | by tonyz | 2014-02-08 18:48:02 |

Wasps/bees my heart rate goes to about 200, I stand about 6 feet away physically shaking and blast them with wasp spray until they fall to the ground, then get them with a shoe.
Even if the stingy/bitey insect is quite visibly dead at that point, the shoe will often end up tied in a plastic bag in the freezer for a couple days "just to be sure" before I finally feel safe cleaning the dead bug off of it.
I'm fully aware that this behavior isn't rational, but at the same time it is not something I have much control over -- just making myself get close enough to a wasp to catch it would be like trying to put my hand on a hot stove and hold it there, the phobia is that strong...
I used to be able to make myself catch spiders (they don't fly, making them somewhat less terrifying) but when I found out that releasing a house spider outside was just sentencing it to a slow death, I started squishing them too.
I wish I was a good enough person to overcome the phobia and catch wasps, and to willingly share my living space with house spiders, but I don't think I am. |
