missed payment / late payment results in retroactive intrest, but not just at the normal intrest rate, but at the penalty rate, for the duration of the loan. Make the last payment late and owe ALL "unpaid" intrest right then and there. I see this sometimes in the t&c of "intrest free loans" with penalty rates exceeding 30%. Doesn't sound like a problem here though based on his reply.
