if I saw that meter, the house is tapped into an underground gas supply pipe.
My county has very few natural gas lines and only one company with trucks that can fill a tank. I just looked online, that one company does have underground piping, but, in a very limited service area. They are also the only owners of the pipes. I will call them tomorrow, but I bet I'm beyond the 300 foot max distance from a supply line for free hookup. They will connect up to 600' away from a supply line if I read the pdf correctly.
IF I'm within distance, I'm looking at $2K to hookup service and install a natural gas hot water heater (required for service).
Seriously, given where my local gas company is, they won't come this far. Even if they supply businesses on US19 (Closest major road), I'm still over 5,000 feet away.
I know for a fact there are no natural gas lines in my neighborhood. Just electric, phone, and cable. I honestly think the home I saw has service from the county south of here (i live very near the line, he lives a stones throw away), or, he is close enough to US19 to get service from the local in-county company.
Phone calls will be made.
