Natural Gas Appliance UFies: Question... by tonyz 2014-02-06 18:26:44
I drove past a house today and saw a gas meter on the side of the garage. It was one of the devices I have only seen up north, a box about 18x24x9 with a meter and saftey valve.

To my knowledge, there are no natural gas lines in my county.

Also, where I am, there are no underground residential tanks, the water table can be hit a mere 6' below the surface. Tanks do get buried, however, it is an expensive undertaking.

...so, my question: For those in the know, IF I had a buried or above ground tank, would I still have a meter? In my mind, the meter would only be needed if the gas was supplied dynamically by the gas company, and only the saftey device (the inline circular blowout valve or whatever it is called) would be needed for a storage tank.

Am I wrong? I'm half tempted to go knock on the door of the house and ask if he has a tank or company supply line, but, considering where I live, the homeowner likely won't speak English, or is cooking up meth, or both...
