Recommendations for sanitizing NEW thumb drives by Twitchh 2014-02-06 05:15:47
before using them?

I'm looking at this specifically as an exercise for safely removing any pre-installed (whether accidentally or intentionally by the manufacturer or by some third-party before the drive gets to me), auto-run malware or other "bad things" from a new thumb drive before I plug it into any systems I own or work on.

The links I have seen so far all mostly talk about how to make sure no one else gets *your* data off the drive -- Ball peen hammers seem to figure prominently in the recommendations there.

I want to make sure I don't get *their* data/"presents"/whatever on my computer.

Ideally, I'd like a process I can apply to a thumb drive I find in a parking lot that would allow me to end up being able to use that drive on my systems with complete (ok, at least near-complete) confidence that I'm not catching whatever was left on it for me to stumble across. (I am NOT planning on doing that, mind you.)

So, what say you all?
