ShadowSystems' new PC: gimme a benchmark... by firehawk2014-02-04 14:59:00
  But I don't understand the numbers... by ShadowSystems2014-02-04 16:35:02
    Actually, it's an i3. by firehawk 2014-02-04 18:12:17
Remember, we had the choice of going to an i5 or doubling the RAM, and you told me to do the latter.

Still, the CPU is FAR from slow, and the 16GB RAM and insanely fast super whizzo SSD makes the system absolutely fly.

It doesn't sound (from my little survey) like you do that many truly CPU-intensive tasks anyway, and disk speed is far and away the biggest barrier to speed on modern systems. CPUs have so far outstripped mechanical disks in terms of functional speed (and even RAM too, for that matter) that faster CPUs don't even help all that much unless you're trying to solve physics (all of it), playing the latest and greatest games (with graphics MORE real than reality) or trying to artificial intelligence (not just any, but the one in "Her", or possibly SkyNet).
