ShadowSystems' new PC: gimme a benchmark... by firehawk2014-02-04 14:59:00
But I don't understand the numbers... by ShadowSystems 2014-02-04 16:35:02
I've never been one to run benchmarks on my machines.
I've always knew the new system would be faster than the old, if for no other reason than $OldCPU was generally ~2 generations behind $NewCPU.
Ditto for the RAM, Video, and HD tech.
Going from a Pentium 100Mhz with 16Mb of RAM and a 1Gb HD, to a P200 with 32 & 10, kinda makes benchmarking pointless.

Since my current system is a:
HP ProBook 6360b (64bit)
Intel Core i5-2410M
2.30GHz, 2301 Mhz, 2 Cores, 4 Logical Processors
4Gb RAM
integrated Intel HD Graphics 3000

And my new system is an:
Intel Next Unit of Computing (NUC).
4th Generation Intel I5
16Gb RAM
240Gb SSD
integrated Intel 4000 GPU

Twice the cores, 4x the RAM, and a drive with an access time measured in MS versus Seconds?
I'm fairly certain the new system may be a lEEEEEtle bit faster.
=-)p

So the benchmark numbers don't really tell me anything.
Maybe if I knew what the values were for the ProBook, or what general values a system with it's specs could reasonably be expected to have, otherwise I've nothing to compare the values to.
Are they obscenely fast?
