Brownies are junior girl scouts, aged 7-10, and Guides are aged 10-14. In the Netherlands, for comparision, there's a mixed gender organisation but groups can be single-sex (https://www.scouting.nl/ and http://www.wagggs.org/en/world/organisations?mo=96 - no comments, so no ID9K required).
Volunteer leaders run weekly sessions, for an hour and a half: outside the school programme. I'd rather spend my spare time preparing fun things for the Brownies to do, rather than contacting their teachers telling them what we're doing....sometimes we do the same things as they've done in school anyhow (but my Brownies tell me it's much better, particularly with science experiments, as we let them do the experiment rather than just have them watch the experiment). |
