Find a UK amateur operator and get her or him by wwill 2014-02-04 02:18:31
to give your guides a demonstration of the hobby. If we coordinate this correctly and the ionosphere cooperates it could very well be that I could chat with your young ladies from here.

I and the ham local to you would have to find a frequency and antenna arrangement that would work to make the connection, and thee would be some fiddle-faddle with the times and frequencies, and all that, but I hear Europe from here on a regular basis, and Britain and Scotland in specific quite regularly.

Get them the badge. Teach them Morse code as a part of it, it is a perfect time for them to learn it, treat it as an auxiliary language. Kids learn them much more readily than do adults.

Besides, if you tell them they can use it to tap out 'secret' messages to one another during school and church and even girl-guides meetings, they will rapidly see the utility of Morse.

I can try to make some London contacts, to fine down the band we'll need to use (I'm thinking 80 meters most likely), and then we can work on finding a local to let everyone get a good go at the gear. Gottle of geer, perhaps? Anyway, once I get my 4-H club up and running perhaps my kids could chat with your kids now and again?

Worth thinking about?
