Put myself in the same boat (assault) as she was in, same witnesses, but with the option to just let things go. Had she not kept running her mouth but apologized after she hit me, I would have probably let it all go except some verbal counseling and a minor reprimand at most.
Probably she would have simply had to do some toilet scrubbing or the like in the common areas, on her time off, things like that were not uncommon. But she was still blathering on about people "getting involved" and "butting in" and various other b.s., so decking her was the best option I thought I had.
I always figure if you're going to do a thing, might as well do it right, too. Pulling punches wasn't in the cards. It was a righteous good hit, and other than hurting my hand (as it always does) it felt pretty good to let it go like that. She had left a hand-print on my cheek, and a bruise showed up later.
It came out close enough to even. She had two bruises, smaller ones but lots deeper and they lasted longer.... I know from personal experience that her jaw was sore for at least a week, too.
