I was volunteering as the "Computer Lab Guy" at my son's elementary school.
They had a zillion old PackardBell's running Win95a & networked over 10bT.
Of the ~45 computers the lab was supposed to have, nearly half of them weren't present.
I had to start my project of fixing everything by FINDING them all first, and that's the method I used to do it.
It annoyed the hell out of some, scared the pants off of others, but in the end I found them all & brought them back to the Lab.
Cleaned them off, cleaned them out, replaced all the old NIC's with 10/100 cards (Gigabit LAN cards were too expensive given the bus type), Nuke & Paved them with Win98SR3, and got the whole lab running again.
But having me cooing "Heeeere Puter, Puter, Puter! Here Puter!" while stalking from room to room listening for the bell tones was amusing as heck to the kids.
