temperature of the day is NOW, at (nearly) 2300 hrs. 2 degrees C =above= freezing, when it has been between ZERO (freezing) and minus 6 degrees C for the entire rest of the day.
SWMBO was out of school by 1030 hrs this morning, they gave the kids an early lunch and then got them home before the worst of the nasty stuff got here. It started two hours later than first predicted, something about the relative humidity dropped unexpectedly and threw things off from the predicted curve. Well, the weather got back on that curve in short order.
Sleet followed by snow mixed with freezing rain followed by more sleet mixed with more snow, all bloody day. Until about an hour and a half ago, when it -finally- stopped with the freezing rain.
Presently almost everything has a good thick coating of ICE; trees, bushes, roads, sidewalks, roofs, cars, grass, everything.
But as of an hour ago, the wind shifted a little, and the temperature has risen almost eight degrees in total, from -6 to +2 C.
If it STAYS "warm" like this all night, things will just be a muddy mess in the morning and there won't be much in the way of ice left. But if it doesn't, and does the normal drop overnight, we're in for a glaze of black ice that ought to paralyze the whole area all morning.
But only in the morning. If the prognosticators are correct, tomorrow by 1600 it should be about ELEVEN C. From minus SIX today, to plus EIGHT tomorrow, just twenty or so hours later than that -6 low reading. (It was still that temp. at 2000 this evening. The warming has only been in the last two hours.)
They're saying Sunday's temp. should be up to about FIFTEEN C, and MOSTLY SUNNY.
That's just weird, even for this area.
(Makes my joints freak and creak, too. I've been just miserable ALL day. I've GOT to make a pile of cash somehow and move to the tropics, the cold weather is KILLING me faster than anything else I've got. That, or move to the Arctic Circle, and bloody get it over with. If it's going to kill me anyway I might as well not prolong it.)
