Most of those are just scanned in from hard copy and saved as PDF. They literally are just images. The PDF format allows multiple pages. I've never run across one that has been OCRed. That's probably not a word. They are almost as useless to sighted people as the blind: You have to go all the way to the end, find the index to get the page number and then go to the page. Physical books are easier. Sad to say, but you aren't missing anything there.
