is cost.

This is a bit beyond the 'is there light present' type of test, but would certainly be worthwhile. Thanks for the tip. I also put out a note to some internal people looking for the same thing...seeing as we make fiber assemblies. I can test at 2 wavelengths, but cannot detect at all the wavelengths I am interested in. That tester is too expensive to keep a bunch of them around, so it tends to ravel. I think it is in Virginia right now...
