turn on the camera monitor ("picture") app, then hold it where the camera can see the fibre end.  You should be able to see something, IIRC...

On the screen/picture/image, not the actual fibre end.  And you need not point the fibre directly at the cam, it should show up as a brightly-lit end regardless...
