'target' that will show a red dot if it is hit with an IR light source. Shops that do repairs on TV's have them, they test IR remote controls with the thing. Just hold it up to the fibre and look for a red spot. Even an IR laser will show up on there. Brand name for one sort of this gadget is "InfraTector."
