-If the surroundings and your eyes permit them to be used... I was at -12 and -14 before my cataract surgery, and those glasses I wore (as emergency backup) with the best index glass I could find still were horribly thick at the edges. So I switched to soft lenses when they appeared 40 years ago. Now I only need reading glasses for fine print or more relaxed non-stop reading sessions, while everything else is done without any external aid anymore. The surgery, quite a few years back by now, was a real "eye opener" in several ways. Getting rid of the glasses and/or lenses which I have worn since i was five years old was a wonderful experience.
