i wrote an md5 brute force app as proof of concept, it can crack anything with 3 characters in under 90 seconds, sometimes 4 characters depending on the word. the script is limited to 90 seconds execution to avoid abuse of my web server. I'd also have to say using Rainbow tables reversing a hash is rather simple... my dns service expired while i was away, so goto http://zumpano.homeip.net/apps to check out the brute-force app. you'll need to create an account to access it, only takes a second.
