a certain number (4, IIRC) of *fuselage-installed* JATO packs. The aircraft was designed and built for that use, and the JATO mounting points are built to deal with the additional thrust load.

The rocket sled would be attached to an area, probably in or around the main landing gear, that was never designed or built for that purpose. Thus, tearing out the bottom or over-stressing the rest of the aircraft.
