Now, originally the ID9K was to avoid direct links to NFYOS stuff - because advertisers might withdraw their sponsorship because of it. In which case it really didn't matter much if links that didn't need it got the treatment.

I think the sponsorship has changed though. Which means that the use of ID9K should as well. And your point of making it useless as a warning of content by overusing it is very apropos.

Personally I have avoided using it when I felt it wasn't necessary. For example, CBC has fairly strict moderation, so unless a subject were very contentious and likely to draw out borderline comments (that would be OK by CBC standards but not by FYOSS) I have avoided ID9K for CBC links.

So possibly starting to call ID9K's that aren't needed -- the "just in case" ones -- would be appropriate now. What do other people think?
