found in Win7. It's a piece of hold-over stupid from XP or maybe even before. Hidden ESSID's make my WinXP install act like seriously stupid. No fix, not so far as I can find.

The Linux distro, does it perchance use radio files taken from windows driver files (even generic ones) for controlling the wireless card? If so, I suspect there's the problem. Might need different (maybe older) versions of those radio drivers. Could be worth a check
