| Well, that's annoying. |

Loaded up this laptop I "inherited" with Fuduntu ("Punny name, serious distribution") a Fedora-based distro with Gnome for the desktop. It's trying to be a "Ubuntu" work-alike.
The load went pretty well with everything recognized that I've tested so far.
The annoying part? It won't automatically connect to my WAP if the SSID is hidden. If I turn the SSID on, it'll connect right up. If it's off, I have to invoke root to get it to connect.
I found several references to the "failure" with only a few suggested solutions - one of which is to set a strong password on the WAP and leave the SSID on. The other is to put a couple of lines of code in rc.local(?) that calls wm to do something I haven't take the time to figure out yet.
I'm wondering if it's a feature instead of a bug? Windows will complain if you try to tell it to automatically connect to a WAP with a hidden SSID saying that it's a "security risk" to do so. However, I have seen at least one reference that it's 'fixed' in Fedora 14 (on which 'Fuduntu' is based).
Anyone else have a clue? |
