I need an opinion on word usage... by UGuardian 2011-08-29 15:07:30
"Mankind" vs "Humankind". As in, "history of [mankind|humankind]".

My spelling/grammar check software is complaining about the former, saying that one should always use "gender-neutral" wording. "Humankind" sounds awkward to me.

Personally, I think drawing attention to things like this is actually MORE of a problem than using the word "mankind". It's picking a fight for really poor reasons IMO.
