But I know that part of their duties include things like making arrests, crowd control, taking witness statements, etc. Perfectly appropriate for their jobs, but not what you would usually expect from an acquaintance in a social setting. Well - except for my brother, perhaps. My wife tells me that when she first met him, their first conversation made her feel that she had just been put through the Third Degree :-)
