"Regular" IQ shouldn't be the only measure; people-smarts count a lot too for the job. That said, intelligence often (but not always) correlates with sense, which a police officer needs to have. They also need to be able to learn quickly from instruction and experience. Watering down the requirements for those who do not have the (effective) education levels to do a decent job is not the answer.
