| I was out of school. I first heard of such several years after I had graduated high school. I went to college for one year, went broke and dropped out. Spent a year working/looking for work, then joined the USAF. Went to basic and tech school, then home for 30 days leave before reporting to my "permanent assignment". While on leave I was visiting with a friend who had been a year behind me is HS and was in his second year of college. He was telling his mom and me about this weird stuff they were teaching in math - different number systems that only went up to 6 or 8, or that went past 10 to 12 or more before "they carried to the next column". It was the craziest thing we had ever heard of! I still can't work very well with other base systems, but I do know enough to understand that T-shirt. You know, the one that says "There are only 10 kinds of people - those who understand binary and those who don't". |
