About anywhere, I google for various subjects by wwill 2011-08-29 02:57:54
and follow links via the results.

Also, various newspaper links, in the Illiways posting mainly. The Guardian, Izvestiya for regional news regarding Russia and the associated republics thay used to be the Soviet Union, Al Jazeera for the Middle East, with a few other sites to counter their idiotic biases with equally-idiotic counter-biases. Somewhere in the middle likely lies some form of truth.

Local (to me) news comes from the web sites of the radio and television stations that serve this area, as well as the newspaper web pages, the "Southern Illinoisan," or "Southern Illusion" as we call it. Also the local University daily paper, the "Daily Egyptian" (aka "Daily Erection"). That one also gets taken to my wife's 3rd grade school room to give them occasional practice in proofreading and editing. It's so poorly proofread that 8 year old kids drench it in red ink correcting the grammar, spelling, and punctuation.

(I took one particularly egregious example of their bad proofing in to her class once, let them mark it up with highlighters, and put it in the campus mail with an anonymous letter describing whom had done the corrections. To the paper's Editor-in-Chief. Rumour has it that he was LIVID with rage. Tried to get the legal dept. and the Kampus Keystone Klown Kops to catch and prosecute - well, me, but they didn't know that - for unspecified 'crimes.' Libel or slander or something. Legal apparently declined, said no law broken, especially since the kids were right, the corrections they marked up were all perfect. The paper STILL is a mess of bad writing and spelling. No changes, and it supposedly has won awards for being one of the "best" University newspapers there is. It's sad.)
