debian installation by adding their repository and fetching the
packages. It'll probably still be an all or nothing deal with
regard to the virtualization setup and installation will not be
as smooth and simple as just sticking the CD into a blank machine
and hitting enter a couple of times.


The command virsh is part of the "libvirt-bin" package whereas
"virt-manager" is an extra package. The package "virtinst"
contains some useful programs as well.

If virsh complains it cannot connect, maybe libvirtd is really
not running?
