Invoke: Maths Ufies - solution possible? by poolya 2011-02-17 09:50:11
5 unknown values. Each value is paired with each other value and the sums recorded as follows:

1485 1450 1430 1355 1335 1300 1270 1175 1140 1120

(i.e. the above are the results of a+b, a+c, a+d etc - though not necessarily in that order).

It is also given (though I'm not sure how usefully) that a 6th value exists, such that the lowest of the 5 values + the 6th is 1500, with all other pairing involving the 6th being greater than 1500 (which seems trivial and not entirely helpful).

The question asks "what are the values?" - my question is, "why have I spent so long poking this when I don't think there's a satisfactory method to solve it (i.e. not brute force) - or possibly even a solution?"
