Planning and implementing this ISP changeover by Classic_Jon 2011-02-17 09:01:30
is really starting to wear on me.....12+ hour days make Jon a tired man...

I have 90% of the planning done and should have the rest of the documentation finished by Friday. I like to over plan a bit, and take the future needs into account when designing a "system" and ...some people...only deal with the here and now and if it "works at that second." This brings to mind the old adage about The 7P's

It is AMAZING what you find, and have to fix, before moving forward with things like this when planning for the future is not done! I spent about 2 weeks fixing a *ton* of errors that the domain controllers were throwing, but people kept ignoring because "that was how it has always worked." I will shoulder my share of blame in that but, most of these issues were caused by it not being set up **correctly** in the first place, and then a distinct lack of routine maintenance...

Nothing (and I do mean nothing!) in this ISP changeover has gone according to plan BUT, on the plus side, the domain and the network are functioning better than they have in the last 5+ years!
