The DM said both parents had to be "Individually Sentient" (aka, no Hive Mind, Group Consciousness, or otherwise unable to be considered Sentient on its own), and that the resulting offspring must fall to the same restriction. A Halfling would be Sentient, even if the Vine were not, so the child of such a mating might be acceptable to him. I'll copy & paste your suggestion into the List I'll give him & see what he says. =-)p
