Well, that's it then. FTDI makes better drivers by kahuana 2011-02-16 17:50:19
than Prolific (when it comes to USB-RS232 devices).

In Windows 7 64-bit, Prolific's can't even keep up to a sustained 38400bps stream.

I had a similar problem in Vista 32-bit w/ their driver - which partially resolved by updating the driver. (no such luck this time).

The only "problem" I've seen with FTDI (in XP Pro, on other machines used by cow-orkers) was that the ICSP we use sometimes would not initialize (it is using an FTDI USB-RS232 but with modified vendor & device id's) depending on the order the serial and programmer plug in.

*otherwise* this FTDI has been faithfully streaming at 38400 without dropping a character for the past 45 minutes.

One more puzzle piece found.
